This week we interview Maya Higa, founder of the Alveus Sanctuary for wildlife. But the animals at Alveus aren't any ordinary animal ambassadors—thanks to Maya and her nearly 600,000 Twitch followers and her tremendously popular Conservation Cast, they're educating and inspiring people all over the world. Maya's creativity, intelligence, and compassion has contributed to to the success of these efforts. She has raised over $80,000 USD for other conservation charities, plus $570,000 when starting Alveus. We chat with Maya about how she started the sanctuary (at the age of 22), the animals she cares for, her passion for falconry, and her conservation philosophy and goals.

A deeper dive: Maya shaved her head as part of her fundraising efforts to start the Alveus Sanctuary, but a girl can only grow hair so quickly. So Maya doesn't have to keep shaving her head, you can donate to support the sanctuary here.
